Eemeli Solehmainen is a Finnish pianist and improviser active in Helsinki’s experimental music scene. He holds a master’s degree in classical piano performance and contemporary improvisation from the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre. A versatile musician, he works as a soloist, chamber musician, accompanist and improviser and has performed in Finland, Estonia, France, Germany, Lithuania, and Belgium. He has won prizes at the Kuopio Piano Competition (2014, 2017) and the Antwerp International Improvisation Competition (2019, 2024).

Eemeli's activities include both solo performances and wide-ranging collaborative projects with various ensembles and artists. He has collaborated in concerts with, among others, the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra and the Kuopio City Orchestra and has performed as a soloist with the latter in 2013. In the field of contemporary music and improvisation he has worked in multiple projects, most recently at the Improõhtu- series at EMTA (2025 and 2024) and the Music for Three Spaces- concert series in Helsinki (2024). Other performances include improvisations at the Improv Session- series in the Museum of Impossible Forms (2019) and at the Estonian Music Days festival (2016 and 2017), as well as performances at the Tallinn International Music Days festival (2019). As a sound artist he worked on the contemporary performance Mundane.Magic directed by Katia Skylar, featured at the CPPM Manifestal contemporary performance festival in 2024. In 2022 he took part in the Music at Brel residency in Roquecor, France as a member of the ensemble Trio Kajo.

Driven by endless curiosity for sound, he explores the full sonic range of the piano — combining the colors and harmonies of contemporary music with extended techniques and piano preparations, with influences ranging from jazz to traditional music. Improvisation is a way of exploring the energy of the moment – a continuous dialogue with the instrument, the space, and the listener.
